Trailing my fingers along the thorns
That trace the untrodden path
Finding my way back by memories.
Pricking my skin, drawing life-
The thorns are as sharp as I remembered.
But I'm not aware of the pain,
I've become callused to it all.
Competing with the thorny plants
Are the nightshade and poison ivy.
Strangling each other for my touch,
Straining to feel alive again.
Wilted rosebuds tilt their heads to me
As I somber by.
Ravens caw my return to the land.
Timber wolves join the ravens
With their bone-chilling howls.
That trace the untrodden path
Finding my way back by memories.
Pricking my skin, drawing life-
The thorns are as sharp as I remembered.
But I'm not aware of the pain,
I've become callused to it all.
Competing with the thorny plants
Are the nightshade and poison ivy.
Strangling each other for my touch,
Straining to feel alive again.
Wilted rosebuds tilt their heads to me
As I somber by.
Ravens caw my return to the land.
Timber wolves join the ravens
With their bone-chilling howls.
